I love going into a drugstore and exploring the endless number of products…they have something for almost every ailment now! But with prices soaring and the lack of proven results for most products, are these items really worth it? Chances are that you can find something in your own home to cure your ailment before opening your wallet at the pharmacy. Below are twenty useful and easy at-home remedies that will save you time and money the next time you’re looking for a quick solution to an annoying health problem.

1. Did you wake up this morning with a nasty red pimple? Panicking over how to get rid of it? Try some toothpaste. Apply for ten to fifteen minutes during the day, or overnight to reduce redness and irritation.

2. Anytime you need to cure a case of bad breath, just eat some parsley. It’s a natural remedy to make your breath fresh again, and can be a great idea on a date after a meal full of garlic or onions.

3. Nauseous? Ginger is your solution! Try some ginger slices from the grocery store, or grate some fresh ginger into a cup of tea.

4. If you ever feel irregular, or deal with bouts of constipation, try to add prunes or figs to your diet. It’s also important to drink at least eight glasses of water per day in order to keep your digestive system regular.

5. Gargling with (no more than) an eighth of a teaspoon of cayenne pepper and water can actually help to ease a sore throat. Gargling with salt water is also helpful if the infection is bacterial, so try these solutions the next time you wake up with a scratchy throat.

6. If for any reason you feel dizzy, you can also put a dash of cayenne pepper in a glass of water. Drink it as fast as you can. The cayenne pepper will actually increase blood flow to the head and will help to restore the body’s equilibrium.

7. Hydrogen peroxide works wonders on scrapes and cuts in clearing them of unwanted bacteria.

8. Hydrogen peroxide also helps in clearing out excess earwax. Dab a bit on a cotton swab, and you’ll be hearing better in no time.

9. If you suffer from headaches, rub some peppermint drops on your temples. The trick has been used for centuries to provide calming and soothing relief.

10. Can’t get rid of those nasty hiccups? Eat two tablespoons of sugar, with no water. The substance will be hard to get down, and the work that your diaphragm has to do in order to process it will help to get rid of your hiccups in no time!

11. If you get a nosebleed, have someone drop a few ice cubes down the back of your shirt. The instant cold will make the veins in the body constrict, causing blood flow to decrease.

12. Always remember to wear your sunscreen. If you forget, however, and get sunburned, apply either aloe or yogurt for instant relief.

13. Yogurt can also work very well in aiding yeast infections. Eating it will keep healthy bacteria in the body to avoid these types of infections. If an infection is very uncomfortable, yogurt can also be applied directly to the area in order to provide some relief.

14. Urinary tract infections are terrible, so if you feel one coming on or are suffering from one, drink cranberry juice! Look for pure fruit juice forms instead of cranberry cocktail for a stronger dose of the fruit’s powerful benefits.

15. If you suffer from acid reflux disease, drink two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in water, three times per day. Apple cider vinegar has been reported to work wonders, and it can also help relieve sinus infections.

16. Hung-over? Well there are a number of solutions that people claim work, but it is definitely important to drink as much water as possible before falling asleep to help with dehydration. Upon waking, try eating a banana or drinking some pickle juice.

17. If you crave to look younger, and wish for softer, wrinkle free skin, add flaxseed (or other sources of omega-3’s) to your diet. It will help from the inside in making your complexion look flawless.

18. Chamomile can help tremendously with indigestion. If you feel sick after a heavy meal, try to drink a cup of chamomile tea, and you should feel better within the hour.

19. For years, people have been drinking milk before bed to help them sleep. An even better trick for insomnia though is to add honey to warm milk before going to bed.

20. If your hair is starting to look dry and brittle, mix some olive oil with an avocado and slap it all over your hair. Place a shower cap over the mixture and let your hair soak in the rich oils.

  1. They don’t make hydrogen peroxide like they used to. It’s been watered down quite a bit, and I don’t think it works as well.

I’ve heard that Preparation H can also help reduce the swelling of a pimple.
